Workshop Presented by Chris Engle-Tjaden (KBI) and Rebecca Vincent (Johnson County Sheriff's Office)
This course will introduce the student to a basic understanding of imaging principles. Through lecture material, we will discuss basic exposure concepts, depth of field and metering principles and how to utilize these concepts to create accurate and high quality imaging. We will also discuss the construction of the camera and how the camera functions to create these images. This review will also incorporate an introduction to the various types of cameras available for crime scene documentation, to include point and shoot, DSLR, MILC, and cell phones. There will also be an extensive review of equipment, and how those items are utilized to accomplish specific imaging needs. Lastly the course will introduce the student to some basic composition principles and crime scene documentation practices to create an overall documentation package geared towards highlighting investigative needs. In order to better understand the equipment and techniques it is highly recommended the student bring their equipment they generally use during the documentation of evidence or crime scene conditions. In addition this course will contain several opportunities to practice the techniques presented during the lecture.
